The Studio for Dance has been instructing students for 39 years.  We offer a variety of dance styles and several different programs to meet the needs of our students and families.

Dance styles offered at The Studio for Dance

Ballet: Classical ballet is taught at different ability levels. Pointe is introduced when recommended by the instructor.
Jazz: Jazz is offered beginning in Kindergarten, unless otherwise recommended by the instructor. All K-5th graders who enroll in jazz must also register for ballet.
Tap: Traditional tap steps such as Wings, Buffaloes, Time Steps, Pull Backs, and other classics are introduced according to ability level.
Clogging: Clogging is the ancestor of tap dance and emphasizes the feet as they produce the rhythms. Today’s popular clogging dances have their heritage in the Appalachian Mountains. These classes are open to children aged 5 through adults.
Lyrical/Contemporary: Lyrical and Contemporary classes are offered to 12-year-olds & up. Students express themselves through movement and the lyrics of the music. By invitation only.
Piano/Voice: Geneva Woode has developed our private lesson program for both piano and/or voice. Please call to schedule.
Pilates Classes: Improve your strength & flexibility by taking Private Pilates Reformer lessons. 60-minute sessions for ages 10 through adult with a certified Pilates instructor. An excellent conditioning system for dancers and non-dancers alike.

Programs available at The Studio for Dance

Primary Program (Preschool – Grade 3)

The Studio for Dance has a wonderful preschool and kindergarten program where fun, creative movement, learning right and left, skipping and the basics of dance are taught. These classes introduce young dancers to movement and musicality in a happy and supportive environment.  Beginning at age 3, the dancers will learn the fundamentals of dance, while also making new friends!

The preschool class (ages 3 & 4) is a combination of ballet and tap.  The student is introduced to ballet and basic tap steps are introduced for rhythm. This helps create a relationship between the body, the feet and the mind. The class meets once per week for one hour.

The kindergarten/first-grade class and the second/third grade classes are a combination of ballet, tap, and jazz.  We continue to develop students in the areas of ballet and tap during these classes.  In addition, we introduce the dancers to jazz with basic coordination movement using upbeat and popular music. The kindergarten class meets once per week for 1.5 hours and the first/second/third grade class meets once per week for two hours.

Recreational Program (Grade 4 – Grade 12)

At The Studio for Dance, we strive to provide every dancer with the opportunity to grow and develop in ways the arts uniquely provide. Our exciting recreational dance program for grades 4 – 12 offers a modern curriculum in ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary (Grades 6 – 12), and more. The program educates, challenges and inspires in a personal, non-competitive atmosphere of learning. All of the classes are age appropriate and have been developed to challenge dancers both technically and creatively. Dancers will gain social skills, self-confidence, rhythm, coordination and dance techniques! Classes run September through May and include our annual recital in the spring.
